Mediatraffic continues to be a strong staple in the CPV and PPV traffic diet for us, and not just running targetted URL or keyword campaigns. Commonly overlooked is the heavier traffic from their RON campaigns. RON or Run of network campaigns can yield serious ROI if done correctly. Correctly means, aligning the proper offer, and split testing testing testing until you see potential winners. Affiliates using this with success are promoting with landing pages, AS WELL as by simple direct linking.

Not using Mediatraffic yet to supplement your income and traffic? Then get over and check them out, their demographic is quite unique, is international and you don’t need a major investment to get started. (I believe they just dropped their deposit minimum to $100!)

On a sidenote, we have created a pretty robust tool for Media Traffic which all PPVDomination members get for free. If you would like to purchase the standalone bot, you can do so from the banner on the side, or by clicking here. The bot is a completely standalone bot, that bids for #1. It scapes all your active campaigns and target urls, then bids for placement #1. It does this fast, and saves you doing it manually. This is a major timesaver for when you get multiple campaigns going, especially when you are bidding on tons of targets. For $47 you can’t go wrong. It is a ONE time payment and will be completely supported.

If you have any questions about the bot, or would like more info, just comment below!

PPV, or pay per view, simply means that you only pay when a potential customer actually views your ad. This is also known as CPV or cost per view. When we refer to ppv we are talking solely about the companies which use adware to display ppv ads. Adware is a downloadable software which is usually installed by the user in exchange for something such as screensavers, online games, toolbars, etc. This downloadable software will then display ads in the form of popups or popunders whenever a user is online browsing.

Considering that we are only referring to PPV Networks which are utilizing adware, these will be the only companies that we rank. We will list some of the other PPV traffic sources but will not go into an in depth review.

We will list our top PPV Networks in order of profitibility from our experience. We weigh things such as amount of ppv traffic available, amount of competition which correlates directly with the actual cost per view, quality of traffic, conversion ratio, and overall ROI. Keep in mind that these are our opinions and others may experience varying results. We have listed the top PPV Networks below beginning with our most recommended and ending with our least favorite.

The Top PPV Networks

1. Traffic Vance – No surprise here. However, we are finding it more and more difficult to return an acceptable ROI with TrafficVance. This is mainly due to the competition. They are by far the most popular of the PPV traffic sources and it definately shows in the bid prices.

Pros: Excellent traffic volume & excellent user base. There traffic converts better than any other PPV network in our opinion. This has a lot to do with the fact that Traffic Vance owns their user base and is not out buying traffic from other networks which can sometimes be viewed as junk traffic. Best user interface in our opinion.

Cons: $1,000 minimum deposit. This is both good and bad in my opinion. It’s tough on some that may not have the money to invest but it also keeps the rifraf out and the newbies that have no idea what they are doing other than driving up bid prices. High competition thus higher bid pricing.

You may remember that we made a post regarding Traffic Vance now adding International traffic. This is in our opinion will put Traffic Vance leaps and bounds ahead of everyone.

2. Lead Impact – formerly Zango

Pros: The second most traffic behind Traffic Vance. Bid prices are relatively cheap compared to TrafficVance. Traffic converts relatively well, could be better but the amount of ppv traffic and the bid prices makes up for the inferior conversion rate. Our second highest ROI.

Cons: It is tough to get your ads reviewed at times. It can sometimes be days before ppv ads are reviewed if you don’t email them every time you set up a new campaign. As stated above, the traffic does not convert nearly as well as some of the other PPV Networks.

3. AdOn Network - Keep in mind that with AdOn Network your ads are being shown in a popunder window rather than a popup.

Pros: PPV traffic is very cheap compared to Traffic Vance. Traffic converts relatively well. PPV targets start at just $.005.

Cons: Low traffic compared to some of the other networks. They do have a tendency to send some junk traffic from time to time. You can check for junk traffic by running a report and looking for Partner ID 111211. You need to message your Rep. for approval every time you create new campaigns or else they will be pending for days.

4. Media Traffic

Pros: New PPV campaigns are quickly reviewed for approval. Traffic converts better than AdOn Network & Lead Impact.

Cons: Well, they didn’t get the nickname Media “NO” Traffic for nothing. Bid prices can also get quite high especially in relation to the amount of traffic that MediaTraffic has.

5. Linksador

Pros: PPV traffic converts very well. Not alot of competition at the moment. Quick ppv campaign approvals.

Cons: Very low amount of ppv traffic. User Interface is not the friendliest.

6. Direct CPV

Pros: Well, they are #6 for a reason… we currently don’t have too many pros for DirectCPV. Keep in mind though that they are new and experiencing growing pains. They do have a decent amount of ppv traffic but we just haven’t found much to convert yet. Their user interface is much better now that they have re-done it so we will be spending a lot more time testing them. I just couldn’t stand the old cumbersome interface and refused to spend very much time with it.

Cons: Conversions seem to be lower than the others. New ppv campaigns can be pending for days if you don’t message your Rep. Our referrer stats are showing that they have been sending junk traffic from time to time.

7. Adoori – We don’t have much too report on them right now. Adoori is a new network in which we are just beginning our tests. We will report back with our findings once we have some history behind us.

You will notice that we did not rank Clicksor, AdBrite, MegaClick, or CPVMarketplace. This is intentional as we do not view them as true PPV Networks or PPV Traffic Sources. These companies serve ads based on the publisher’s website content rather than a software app. being installed on the users computer. Targeting for these 4 companies is far inferior to the PPV Networks in which we have ranked above.

I wrote this up rather quickly and will be adding to it in the near future. Most importantly though, the rankings are based on our experience and our ROI, so it is a good baseline for most to base their ppv marketing decisions.

Trafficvance.com has recently became one of the more competitive pay per view networks on the internet. Media Traffic has over the past few years, grown fairly large itself and has a pretty unique user install base.

We will briefly touch upon the 2 networks, as both have their advantages and disadvantages. One thing that remains true, both have good traffic, and cheap targets if you are setting your campaign up right from the start.

Mediatraffic.com -This network is primarily delivering ads to its user base after having had them install screensavers or other simple desktop applications. The user base is INTERNATIONAL in scope, and is NOT limited to the USA as is traffic from Trafficvance.com . The advantage here is the possiblility of 1) a wider and broader range of offers you can promote, and 2) a varied userbase you can test your offers/ ads with. *Trafficvance has just recently announced they have added an International Traffic component to their network* This is posted inside the user’s login dashboard!!

TrafficVance is going international!

02/11/2010 05:48 PM

As of midnight, February 12th you will need a new international Trafficvance account to receive any non-US traffic.

Go to trafficvance.com and apply. Use your existing “username_intl”, i.e. if your existing user name is abzd your new user name would be abzd_intl. You must indicate in the “Additional Information” section that you’re applying for an international account. Thanks!

When considering Trafficvance’s userbase, always remember the majority of their “user installs” come from people who chose to download and install games (gamevance.net) with the understanding that “relevant and unobtrusive ads” will be presented to them on occassion. Now this won’t immediately give you the full scope of the demographics of the Traffic Vance audience/userbase, for example a 12 year old may download and install the games, but it’s mom and dad who get served the ads later down the road. Targetting kids for installs is a very wise marketing plan by guys like trafficvance, and they know full well the spinoff of getting these installs.

Media Traffic on the other hand relies on their userbase to “want” to install emoticons, screensavers and the odd web based game themselves. As stated previously, they have a larger install base outside of the USA. Exact #’s aren’t readily available, but last I heard trafficvance was at about 12 million installs/users and Mediatraffic at approximately 8-10 million.

When creating your campaigns, both Mediatraffic and Trafficvance have similar guidelines, making them pretty easy to “scale over to”. (ie: if you have a campaign you just created for Trafficvance, in all likelyhood, the exact same camapaign can be uploaded to Mediatraffic). The main, or only big difference here is, if your creative or ad spawns an “auto audio play” creative, it will get rejected at mediatraffic. Both TV and MT will NOT allow your creative to spawn popups etc, and now TV has implemented very rigid guidelines with respects to trademarked logos and names. (Mediatraffic appears to have taken a more relaxed view on this).

If you are looking to get the most impressions for your buck, it is very apparent that Media traffic will allow your advertising dollar to last longer, but the traffic may not be the quality you are needing. On the other hand, traffic vance’s advertising competitiveness leads to higher bid prices for many targets out there, but the traffic truly does convert well.

Hopefully this has cleared up some of the advantages and disadvantages to using 2 of the popular PPV Networks out there. Media Traffic and TrafficVance both have solid user bases, and are only growing. The amount of advertisers using Traffic vance appears to be higher, hence driving up the prices to a lot of creative keywords and urls. This is where very meticulous tracking and analyzing comes into play, because BOTH these networks can “work” for the same campaigns, it just may well be on different targets (keywords or urls)

You can not assume that a PPV campaign carried out via one network will produce similar results if you should decide to test it with another PPV Network. Different networks can deliver extremely different results. Lets examine why we can’t generalize across different networks and the impact this fact should have on the way you conduct your business.

Foremost, various networks recruit their users in different ways. As a result, they generate drastically different audiences that may have extremely different buying and response habits. While one network may convince people to download their adware in exchange for a free game, another may generate users via screensavers or various toolbars. While much of these groups may overlap, their overall character would be extremely different. Thereby, an offer that may appeal to one network’s user base may fall on deaf ears when presented to another.

Secondly, Pay Per View is a numbers game. Results and their profitability can only be identified after a great deal of testing. Thus, even small modifications in the value of key variables can have a significant overall impact after thousands upon thousands of impressions. No two PPV Networks will yield identical bid prices across all URLs or keywords. Those variations in pricing will produce considerably different results.

Third, various networks have various guidelines regarding the display of advertisements. Some are served exclusively as popunders. Others may make use of popovers. The size of the ads may vary, as well. Those distinctions may seem minor, at first glance. Nevertheless, when we multiply the differences out over several thousand impressions, variations in results will inevitably begin to arise.

Therefore, what works particularly well at TrafficVance may completely fail at Media Traffic. We can’t safely assume that a successful or unsuccessful campaign conducted through one network will yield comparable results with another.

What does this mean in terms of your business?

Initially, it justifies testing with multiple networks in an effort to discover the most profitable Pay Per View option. In addition, it reminds us to be careful in assuming the scalability of any one campaign across multiple networks.

If you are only working with one network and you aren’t getting the preferred results, it may make sense to try your PPV strategy with one or two other networks before giving up on it. Otherwise you could be passing on a profitable campaign.

If you have a profitable campaign, you should not pop the cork on your champagne the moment you decide to expand your reach via an additional network. Your winning PPV campaign could be a complete failure when transferred to another network.

The bottom line: PPV Networks are vastly different and they produce vastly different results. Assuming that “they are all the same” is a mistake that could have a significantly negative effect on your business’s bottom line.

Being cognizant of the demographics that each source delivers can be an important factor or factors when choosing what offer(s) to promote. Asking questions to your ad reps is oftentimes a good plan, as well as doing a little research on your own. Sites like quantcast.com, compete.com, alexa.com and others can give you some good indicators of the types of people that are using apps installed by the ppv networks you are buying traffic from…
